A collection of resources for cat lovers and cat owners.

I share my home with three cats: Xena (adopted in February 2021), Sophie (adopted in October 2022), and Midna (adopted in August 2023). You can see photos of them in my Cat Photos gallery.

πŸ’¬ Quotes

  • "Having a bunch of cats around is good. If you're feeling bad, just look at the cats, you'll feel better, because they know that everything is, just as it is." – Charles Bukowski (from the book On Cats)
  • "[Cats] are very much tied into the subtleties of things. And so, to be in the presence of a cat and really be in their presence is to understand the subtleties of life… and the richness of how small things really, really matter. And they are such sponges for those small things, that to really communicate with a catβ€”there is something to really being present and witnessing them and respecting them in a way that's a little bit different than being with a different kind of a species; they each have their own signature." – Karen Dendy Smith (from Cat Chat podcast #289)

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • Measure cat food portions in grams, not cups or scoops. A kitchen scale is far more accurate than volume-based measurements, which can vary depending on kibble size, how packed the scoop is, and other factors. Weighing food in grams makes it easy to calculate exact calorie intake, adjust portions precisely, and stay consistent day to day.
  • Track your cats' food intake and weight. I use a spreadsheet to log daily meals (food types given, grams given, grams remaining in the morning) and weight measurements. This helps identify eating pattern changes and provides useful data for vet visits. I also keep a separate document with feeding plans that include calorie calculations for each cat.
  • Use litter box liners. They make litter changes quick and mess-free.
